A moment for you

Modern life rarely gives us permission to slow down..

In today's fast-paced world, many individuals professionals and

home makers spend their days under constant pressure,

balancing demanding workloads, deadlines, family responsibilities,

and the ongoing stimulation of technology.

"Chronic stress can compromise the nervous system leaving it in a

prolonged "fight-or-flight" state.

Yet it doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like carrying on

while quietly feeling exhausted. Over time, ongoing stress can affect how we think, feel and function, influencing our mental clarity, emotional wellbeing and physical health.

You may recognise some of these signs:

THE MIND

When your mind never seems to switch off...

  • Racing thoughts that won't slow down

  • Finding it hard to concentrate or stay present

  • Forgetting simple things or feeling mentally foggy

  • Constant overthinking and "what if" scenarios

  • Feeling emotionally drained by decision-making

  • Struggling to switch off at the end of the day

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep

THE HEART

When you're carrying more than you let on...

  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed

  • Becoming easily irritated or impatient

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or others

  • Carrying everyone else's needs before your own

  • Losing joy in the things you once loved

  • Feeling anxious without knowing exactly why

  • A sense of being "stuck" or emotionally exhausted

the body

When your body is asking for a break...

  • Tight shoulders, neck or jaw

  • Persistent fatigue, even after sleeping

  • Headaches or tension-related discomfort

  • Shallow breathing or feeling constantly "on edge"

  • Digestive discomfort during stressful periods

  • Restlessness or difficulty relaxing

  • Feeling like your body is always in high alert

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy that aimed at promoting deep relaxation and to support the body's natural healing processes. Originating in Japan in the early 20th century, Reiki involves a trained practitioner placing their hands lightly on or just above the body with the intention of encouraging deep relaxation and wellbeing.

While Reiki is not intended to diagnose, treat or replace medical care, many people find it helps them feel calmer, more balanced and better able to cope with the demands of daily life.

Reiki Healing Session

A Gentle Moment of Relief

"I had a lovely sleep and woke up feeling deeply rested. Since starting sessions with Naz, I've experienced a sense of relief that I hadn't felt in months. During an incredibly difficult season of my life, these sessions became a source of calm and support. I honestly don't know how I would have managed without them."

How Reiki Works

Every experience is unique. Reiki is not a medical treatment and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. It is offered as a complementary wellbeing practice that may help people experience deep relaxation, emotional support and a greater sense of calm alongside their existing medical care.

Understanding Your Nervous System

Your autonomic nervous system has two primary modes:

Fight or Flight

This is your body's natural stress response. It prepares you to respond to challenge by increasing heart rate, muscle tension and the release of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.

Rest and Restore

Sometimes referred to as the "rest and digest" response, this state supports relaxation, recovery, healthy digestion, restorative sleep and many of the body's natural repair processes.

Many relaxation practices, including Reiki, meditation and mindful breathing, aim to create the conditions that encourage this restorative state.

You have two settings.
Most of us are stuck on one of them.

Our nervous system runs on two modes.

Sympathetic — alert, scanning, ready to act.

And parasympathetic — rested, digesting, repairing.

You need both. The problem isn't that alert mode exists. It's that for a lot of people, it never fully switches off — even in bed, even on a Sunday ...

This is the shift a Reiki session is designed to prompt — not by adding anything, but by removing the reasons your body has to keep watching.

Touch, stillness and a genuinely safe room are a signal your nervous system understands, even when your mind is still making lists.

Let's clear a few things up

You've probably heard one of these. Here's the honest version.

"You have to believe in energy for it to work." You don't. What's doing the work is physiological — stillness, touch, and a room with nothing expected of you. Your nervous system responds to that whether or not you believe in anything at all.

"Isn't it basically a massage?" No manipulation of muscle or tissue. Hands rest lightly on or above the body. The mechanism is presence and stillness, not pressure — which is why people who find massage too stimulating often prefer this.

Do I need to believe in Reiki? No. Reiki is simply an opportunity to relax and slow down. Many clients come with curiosity rather than belief and appreciate the experience for its calming effects.

WHAT IS REIKI

Radiant heart background

Reiki is a gentle Japanese relaxation practice that uses light touch to encourage deep rest and help you reconnect with yourself.

It offers a calm space to slow down, breathe and restore balance

reiki in japanese

"What does Reiki feel like?" Everyone's experience is different. You may notice warmth, deep relaxation or simply a quiet mind. There is no right or wrong experience.

"It's a religious or spiritual practice." Not here. No belief system, chanting, or ritual required. It's a quiet, secular hour — closer to guided rest than anything else.

"What should I wear?" Wear comfortable clothing. You'll remain fully clothed throughout your session.

"It'll fix everything that's stressing me out." It won't, and anyone who tells you it will is overselling it. It's not medical treatment and it won't fix your job, your traffic, or your bank balance. What it does is give your body one real, structured pause — which is often the thing missing before you can think clearly about the rest.

"Is Reiki suitable for everyone?" Reiki is a gentle wellbeing practice suitable for most people. If you're receiving medical treatment or have health concerns, Reiki can be enjoyed alongside your healthcare plan with your healthcare provider's guidance.

"Will I fall asleep?" You might! Some people drift off, while others remain awake and simply enjoy a deep sense of calm.

"Can Reiki replace medical treatment?" No. Reiki is a complementary wellbeing practice and should not replace advice or treatment from your doctor or other healthcare professionals.

what a session actually looks like

Three parts. Nothing hidden, nothing to prepare.

01

SETTLE

You lie down, fully clothed, in a calm, low-light room. There's no small talk expected and nothing to perform.

02

RESET

Hands rest lightly on or above the body, moving slowly. Most people stop tracking time somewhere in the middle.

03

INTEGRATE

A few quiet minutes to come back at your own pace, before you're handed back to the rest of your day.

WHAT YOU ACTUALLY GET OUT OF IT A REIKI SESSION IN JOHANNESBURG

Not a fix. A real pause your body can feel.

This isn't about chasing a feeling of bliss. It's about giving an overworked system one hour where it's allowed to stand down.  This isn't a treat you feel guilty booking. It's maintenance — the same way you wouldn't run a car for years without a service and expect nothing to give.

Reiki works best as one part of a bigger recovery habit, alongside yoga and sound work — different tools for the same underlying job: teaching an overloaded nervous system how to come back down.
